How Do Kia Drive Wise® Features Work?
Kia Drive Wise® is an advanced suite of driver-assistance and safety technologies designed to enhance awareness, confidence, and control behind the wheel. By combining radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors, this intelligent system in new Kia cars constantly monitors the vehicle’s surroundings to help prevent collisions and reduce driver stress. Casey Kia shows how Drive Wise® works to make every drive safer and more intuitive.
Kia Drive Wise® Technology
There are several different features included in the Kia Drive Wise® suite of safety features, so it utilizes multiple technologies. New Kia cars are equipped with sonar sensors, radars, and cameras, which work together to monitor how you’re driving, your driving conditions, your surroundings, and the traffic around you. Depending on the feature, some also work with your normal vehicle functions, such as your brakes and your steering.
Auto Emergency Braking Technology™
Many new Kia models are equipped with Auto Emergency Braking Technology™ with Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Junction Turning Technology™. If your vehicle’s forward-mounted camera or radar senses an imminent collision, it will warn you. It can even automatically apply your brakes to lessen or prevent the impact.
Safe Exit Warning™
The Safe Exit Warning™ feature can detect if one of your rear seat passengers is trying to open their door while another vehicle is approaching. It will alert you with an audible warning. Some Kia models are even equipped to automatically lock the rear door until it’s safe to exit.
Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist™ and Blind-Spot Collision Warning™
When the Blind-Spot Collision Warning™ feature detects objects or vehicles in your blind spot, you will get a visual and/or audible signal. If you turn on your turn signal, you will be alerted. If you still attempt to change lanes, the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist™ feature will gently correct your steering.
Rear Cross-Traffic Warning and Avoidance Technology™
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist™ feature, which is found in many new Kia cars, is designed to help you reverse safely. The system warns you if it senses a vehicle crossing when you’re attempting to reverse. If you don’t respond to the alert, it can automatically apply the brakes to ensure you don’t get into a collision.
Additional Kia Drive Wise® Features
- Lane Keeping Assist™: Uses a forward-facing camera to detect lane markings. If you start to drift unintentionally, the system can provide steering input to help guide you back to your lane.
- Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go™: Maintains a preset speed and following distance from the vehicle ahead. In heavy traffic, it can bring your Kia to a complete stop and automatically resume acceleration when traffic moves again.
- Highway Driving Assist™: Combines the functions of Smart Cruise Control™ and Lane Following Assist™ to help maintain your lane position and distance from other vehicles on highways.
- Driver Attention Warning™: Monitors your driving patterns and provides visual and audible alerts if it detects signs of drowsy or inattentive driving.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist™: Detects potential hazards in front of your vehicle and can automatically apply the brakes to help avoid or mitigate a collision.
- Parking Distance Warning™: Uses ultrasonic sensors to alert you to obstacles while parking. Some Kia models feature Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist for added braking support.
