Kia Soul vs. the Nissan Kicks: Subcompact SUV Showdown

August 5th, 2025 by

New Kia Soul in Newport News The compact SUV segment is full of choices, but few comparisons are as close as the Kia Soul and Nissan Kicks. At Casey Kia, we want to help you understand how these two models stack up in performance, comfort, and technology. Whether you’re focused on daily commutes, weekend getaways, or maximizing cargo space, this comparison highlights the key differences that could help you choose the right fit for your lifestyle.

Spirited Performance

There’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood of the 2025 Kia Soul. Even though it produces slightly less torque, it generates up to 147 horsepower, while the 2025 Nissan Kicks only delivers up to 141 horsepower. This gives the Kia SUV an eight-second 0-60 mph time, as opposed to taking 8.9 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph in the Nissan Kicks.

Spacious Cabin

While these SUVs are both compact, they still provide versatile space. They both provide similar legroom in the front row. However, there’s extra space for your rear passengers to stretch out in the 2025 Kia Soul, which includes an ample 38.8 inches of rear legroom, as opposed to only 34.5 inches in the 2025 Nissan Kicks. The Kia Soul also provides up to 62.1 cubic feet of cargo space, with the rear seats folded down, while the Nissan Kicks can only hold up to 60 cubic feet of cargo.

Intuitive Technology

The SUVs both have a high-tech focus. However, the 2025 Kia Soul comes standard with more, which is ideal if you want a connected cabin without having to pay for a higher trim. The Kia SUV features an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. The 2025 Nissan Kicks, on the other hand, only features a seven-inch touchscreen as standard, and smartphone integration isn’t available in the base model.

Premium Sound Systems

The 2025 Kia Soul comes with a six-speaker audio system, while the 2025 Nissan Kicks only has four speakers. For enhanced sound quality, the Nissan SUV is available with a six-speaker Bose® premium sound system. However, that can’t compare to the available Harman Kardon® audio system in the Kia Soul, which features 10 speakers, including a center speaker, subwoofer, and an external amplifier.
